Richard J. DeLattre is the Vice President and Sales Manager of JED Heating & Cooling, Inc. Rick graduated from California University of PA in June 1994. In his early years in the business he was both a certified technician and installer. Rick has attended both residential and commercial design and engineering classes.
Company History
In 1952 father Eugene J. DeLattre went into business bringing in a trainload of the first air conditioners in the Mon Valley to Donora, PA. His son, James DeLattre, started JED Heating and Cooling Inc. in 1979 concentrating on residential heating and air conditioning, light commercial, hot water heating, geo-thermal, heat pumps, and indoor air quality. Our original location was 400 Meldon Ave. In 1982 we relocated to 900 McKean Ave, to a new facility enabling JED to house more employees and warehouse more equipment. The 1980’s were good years for JED, doubling our service and installation capabilities. In 1993, Rick, James’ son, became partner in the business. With Rick coming into the business, and new growth, 900 McKean Ave became too small so JED relocated to our current location of 840 McKean Ave, gaining 18,000 square feet of capacity and employing 20 people. In 2004 we also opened a branch in Clairton, PA, enabling us to be able to better service the northern part of the Mon Valley and areas beyond.
GREAT ADVICE:
Why You Shouldn’t Cover Your Air Vents
Covering the floor registers in your home is potentially dangerous if you cover them when using the heating or cooling system. The air pushes through the grates, but the covers block the air from escaping. When you turn the heat up, you push more air through, which raises your heating bill.
Is it safe to cover a vent?
You could mess with the air flow.
Just because you cover the vent, it doesn’t mean your HVAC system knows that. It will keep pushing air to those vents, and if they’re closed, you could cause a buildup of air pressure and insufficient airflow which could damage your system.
True or false: Covering your air vents is a great way to redirect air to other rooms in your home. False! This is the common idea people have when trying to save energy with their HVAC system, but there are a number of reasons you actually shouldn’t cover your air vents.
You could damage the heat exchanger.
If there’s a buildup of pressure from air being pushed to covered vents, the low airflow could create problems with your heat exchanger, causing it to crack and lead to carbon monoxide emissions.
You could develop mold and mildew.
If you live in a humid area, a blocked air vent could allow mold or mildew to develop in and around your vent and air ducts.
You could waste energy.
You probably thought covering your air vents would save you energy, but it does the opposite. Since this could harm your HVAC system, cracks and other damage could allow air to escape your ducts and cost you more in energy bills.
You guys are great! The installation went smoothly and the technicians were great guys. Knowing Rick our whole lives it was an easy call to make.
Thanks again fellas !
